Timeline

September 13, 2002:
Microsoft announces that they're developing "True Fantasy Live Online" in conjunction with Level-5 Inc. for the original Xbox. The game is planned to use voice chat and touted as the biggest Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing game for the Xbox and Xbox live service. The game is detailed as taking place "in a world filled with fantastical characters such as high-flying broomstick-riding wizards and armies of armored knights working together to vanquish evil creatures that threaten the innocent."[1] (Only source available.)

May 9, 2003:
Prior to E3, Microsoft releases a press release stating that "True Fantasy Live Online" will also be releasing in North America, but no release date or time frame is given.[2] No additional information is given about the game at this time nor is a Japan release date mentioned.

May 15, 2003:
"True Fantasy Live Online" is shown at E3 and is demoed off to gamers. Official screen shots are released and so is a trailer showing off game play.

March 2, 2004:
After much silence about the game and its status, Microsoft sends out a press release stating that the Japanese version of the game would be delayed until the Winter of 2004, but with no mention of a North American release date. The delay is attributed to the game needing more development time and polish.[3]

June 2, 2004:
Exactly three months after announcing the game would be delayed, Microsoft Japan announces that they'll be cancelling "True Fantasy Live Online." They attribute the cancellation to the fact that development progress is going slow and the current MMO market is much too crowded and over saturated.[4]
